Below is a list of commonly used terms and their descriptions. You will find these terms used regularly in your Exhibit A’s, on your Royalty Statements and on the Client Console.
Album:
The term “Album” refers to any audio release you submit to 5050 Music Group for distribution. This includes digital singles, EP’s, LP’s, full length artist albums, compilations and the like.
Album Art:
This is the digital “.jpg”, “.png”, “.gif”, “.bmp” or “.tiff” formatted image you submit to 5050 Music Group with your album as the album cover. This is required for all submissions.
Audio:
This is the music you submit to 5050 Music Group for your album. This is required for all music submissions. The only audio formats accepted are .WAV & .AIF.
Assets/Content:
Assets or Content refer to the essential parts of your Album, Video or Film 5050 Music Group needs in order to distribute your material. This includes a completed submission form, artwork and audio in the correct formats.
Meta Data:
This is the text information specific to your content such as the album name, writer(s), catalog number, UPC, ISRC code and other essential information specific to that piece of content. This information is needed when filling out your submission form.
Back Catalog:
For distribution purposes, back catalog are releases older than 4-6 months. Some services do not except back catalog so distribution of this content is not guaranteed.
Distribution Notification:
This is an Excel spreadsheet sent to clients which shows release information ( essential meta data, artwork and track listing, etc.) in the form it will be sent to retailers. When clients receive this, they have 72 hours to respond with any corrections. If no correction is needed, no response is required.
Released Status:
This status denotes your album has been successfully processed by 5050 Music Group and is available for purchase or currently in the distribution cycle.
PLEASE NOTE: it is virtually impossible for 5050 Music Group to know when you album goes live on a specific service as retail partners do not yet provide us the tools to inform you of when a release is published.
Notify Status:
This status denotes your album has been catalogued and a “Distribution Notification” has been sent to the label for final approval.
Release Date:
This date denotes the month, day and year your content was/is/will be scheduled for sale on retailer sites. This date is set by the client when filling out the submission form.
Feature:
This is a type of promotion 5050 Music Group may work on for an approved release. Requesting a feature for a release means INgrooves is attempting to arrange editorial placement of your content on any given site. Although requested, features are never guaranteed and are subject to retailer approval.
Exclusive:
This is a type of promotion that 5050 Music Group may work on for an approved release. “Exclusives” receive preferred placement on retail sites. The release only resides on the site where the “exclusive” is requested for a specified number of weeks. Generally, “exclusives” run 2-4 weeks. Exclusives are never guaranteed and are subject to retailer approval.
Gross Revenue:
This is the dollar amount before taxes, fees and splits.
Net:
This is the dollar amount after taxes, fees and splits.
Royalties:
Revenue generated by the sale, license or stream of a particular song. You will see both gross and net royalties on your statements.
Mechanicals:
The fee that is due to a publisher for every song sold in the physical, digital or mobile space.
Publisher:
This is the entity authorized by the songwriter to collect publishing and mechanical royalties on their behalf.
Co-Publisher:
Often, publishing rights are divided. Should you enter into a Co-Publishing agreement with 5050 Music Group, you agree to share/split the publishing with us via Isolation Networks Electronic Music (BMI) or INgrooves (ASCAP).
PRO (Performance Rights Organization):
These are organizations that collect public performance royalties from sources like radio and television. These public performance royalties are paid to the songwriter and publisher. Examples of the in the US are ASCAP and BMI.
Sound Exchange:
The organization that collects performance royalties in the digital space (internet and satellite radio, etc.) and pays them to the owner of the Master Recording (either the artist or the label).
Synch License:
This occurs when a song is placed into TV, Film or Video Game (i.e. "synched" with the visual images). A synch license requires the approval of both the Master Recording owner (the label) and the Composition owner (the publisher and/or songwriter).
Writer:
This is the real name of the person(s) who creates any original work.
Composer:
This is the real name of the person(s) who performed the work. In dance music for example, this is generally the same as the “writer” since most dance music is created on computer by both the writer and composer.
UPC:
This is a series of numbers used to identify a particular album. Each album must be assigned one before being sent to retailers. If you do not have one, 5050 Music Group can provide one for you upon request. (i.e.: 881124032516)
ISRC:
This is a series of numbers and letters used to identify a particular song on an album. Each song must be assigned one before being sent to retailers. If you do not have one, 5050 Music Group can provide one for you upon request. (i.e.: USA)
Account Threshold:
This is the dollar amount set for a client as minimum revenue needed before royalty payments can be issued.
Royalty Statement:
Royalty statements are generated by 5050 Music Group monthly and list all sales and licenses paid to 5050 Music Group by retailers in a given cycle for a client. Once clients reach their account threshold, payments are issued.
